End of Year Book Survey 2015

Number of books read:

Books released:

Somewhere Only We Know (11th June 2015)

The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening, The Struggle, The Fury and Dark Reunion by L.J. Smith and Here Be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman.

Midnight Crossroad by Charlaine Harris, Even In Paradise by Chelsey Philpot  and Dark Aemilia by Sally O’Reilly.

Book I pushed on the most people:

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.

Favourite new-to-me author:

V. E. Schwab (of whom I read Vicious and A Darker Shade of Magic).

Best series starter:

Silent Scream, the first in the D.I. Kim Stone series by Angela Marsons that went simply stratospheric this year. I have also read the two follow ups this year and am greedy for more!

Best series closer:

Ruin and Rising (The Grisha #3) by Leigh Bardugo.

Best book from outside my comfort zone:

Wild Swans by Jung Chang.

Most disappointing:

Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman.

Most surprising:

The Day We Disappeared by Lucy Robinson.

Best world building:

Red Rising by Pierce Brown.

Book I’m already planning to re-read:

Every Time A Bell Rings by Carmel Harrington (for Christmas 2016!).

Favourite cover:

The Fire Sermon by Francesca Haig.

Favourite ship/couple:

Lincoln and Beth from Attachments by Rainbow Rowell.

Longest book read:

Here Be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman at 718 pages. That was a re-read though, so longest new read was Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas in at 656 pages followed very closely by Wild Swans by Jung Chang at 650.

New fictional crush:

Tamlin from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.

Best book read on someone’s recommendation:

The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith/J. K. Rowling.

Book that made me laugh:

#PleaseRetweet by Emily Benet and How To Stuff Up Christmas by Rosie Blake.

 Book that made me cry:

A Place Called Winter by Patrick Gale.

Book I wished got more attention:

When by Victoria Laurie.

Books I’m most looking forward to in 2016:

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard (January); Morning Star by Pierce Brown (February); Riders by Veronica Rossi (February); The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski (March); A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas (May); The Last Star by Rick Yancey (May); A Torch Against The Night by Sabaa Tahir (August); and SO many more!!
